Upgraded to a iPhone 4S from a 3GS
Random thoughts (that no one needs) after a few days:
- Whoa, this screen is gorgeous. Already finding myself reading RSS feeds on this thing because the display is so pleasurable. Will buy rumored retina-screen iPad so hard.
- I hope the camera pushes more point-and-shoots to distinguish themselves with image quality, along the lines of Canon S95/S100. Surprised by how much better even Instagram shots look.
- Going with the white version was a good choice. Looks better, frames the screen better, etc. Hope Apple cracked the code to keeping it this good-looking as the phone wears.
- I know most others swear by handling the phone with no case, but I dig the white CandyShell case on this thing. I used the first iteration on the 3GS, and the discreet improvements they’ve packed into the 4/4S version make it even better. The buttons feel better, the shape of the phone is more amenable, etc. And judging from the old version on my 3GS, the phone’s pretty indestructible now.
- Everything loading quicker is pretty rad. The extra graphics horsepower is pretty impressive, but I waste it all by just playing the iOS port of Final Fantasy Tactics (which they vastly improved about a week or so ago).
- Siri is ok, I guess. Hoping they expand it further with more structured data; seeing kids play with it in the Apple Store, it’s clear that everyone expects more functionality from it than what’s there. Just hooking it into all the phone’s stock functions—like app store search, etc.—would be a big step. As is, I have a hard time finding use-cases for it.
